Welcome to Northeast Atlanta
Mothers & Sons Serving Together to Impact Their Local Community
Finding time to spend with your teenage son is a challenge. When you join YMSL, you commit to spending quality time together with your son serving your community.
The Northeast Atlanta Chapter was established in 2009, as one of the first chapters in the Atlanta area. Over time, we have developed relationships with 24 philanthropies and proudly offer a huge variety of opportunities to serve with your son. For example…
- cook & serve meals at the Ronald McDonald House
- deliver meals to seniors with Meals on Wheels
- clean local roads with Adopt a Road
- build container homes in downtown Atlanta at Jars of Clay
- teach kids with disabilities to ride a bike with I Can Bike
- deliver furniture to the newly housed with Fully Furnished Ministries
- honor & serve our Johns Creek Veterans with dinner (just to name a few).
The large range of philanthropies that we partner with makes it easy to find a ‘favorite’ with your son, while exploring new ways to help our community. Our calendar provides a myriad of choices on weekdays or weekends, plus a huge number of opportunities during the summer.
Another unique aspect of our Northeast Atlanta Chapter is the broad range of high schools represented in our membership. We currently have members from 13 high schools, which offers you and your son the opportunity to meet and establish relationships with others from all over the North Atlanta area. Making new friends outside of the school environment is a huge bonus of the Northeast Atlanta Chapter. Outside of YMSL, our members often run into each other on the sports fields, at performing arts competitions, working at camp and eventually in their college dorms or classes.
In addition to service, YMSL offers valuable leadership opportunities and a four-year curriculum that covers topics such as car repair, interview skills, cooking, hazing prevention, and so much more. The Northeast Atlanta Chapter aims to teach our young men real world skills in a ‘hands-on’ manner. Boys might learn…
- grilling safety while cooking out with their class
- grocery shopping skills on a poverty-level budget as a team
- meet our local veterans and hear their stories at Veterans Memorial Park
- basic automotive knowledge for road-side assistance and emergencies.
Our chapter offers a variety of meeting options as well, with some meetings held as a class, others as a whole chapter and one annually with several other Atlanta Area chapters.
We hope you will consider joining us in the Northeast Atlanta Chapter. The time to start the membership process is during your son’s 8th-grade year. We look forward to meeting you and serving together. Scroll down for more details.
